Student Defense Statement on Josh Stein’s Election as Governor of North Carolina

Student Defense Vice President and Chief Counsel Dan Zibel issued a statement regarding the election of Josh Stein as Governor of North Carolina:

“As North Carolina’s Attorney General, Josh Stein worked tirelessly to protect students from predatory actors across higher education. He understands that there is no place for schools that saddle students with debt, while providing little educational value.”

“Governor-elect Stein has been, and will continue to be, a reliable partner to fight fraudulent schemes and deceptive tactics that target students. As Attorney General, he partnered with Student Defense to advocate powerfully to ensure that courtroom doors were open to student borrowers who were deceived by their student loan servicer. We are confident that, as North Carolina’s next governor, he will continue to be a fierce advocate for accountability in higher education across North Carolina.”

In 2020, Attorney General Josh Stein co-authored an op-ed in The American Prospect on Lawson-Ross v. Great Lakes with Student Defense Vice President and Chief Counsel Dan Zibel who argued the case before the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. You can read the full op-ed here.
